MY PHILOSOPHY on USABILITY

When a site is user friendly, a person usually does not notice it. It's when a site is NOT user friendly that they notice it. If a site us not user friendly, they usually leave the site and do not return. I believe that a site should not only be easy to use but also be visually appealing. These two combinations equals success.

As an Information Architect and User Interface Designer, I possess valuable experience with the user experience and site heuristics through user testing and market research; competitive analysis, use cases and intuitive knowledge.

Usability is enhanced with
  •   Quality content - not too much or too little
  •   Easy and intuitive navigation around the site
  •   Uncluttered layout and fast loading original graphics
  •   Information presented in bite size chunks
  •   No more than four screens of text per page
  •   Dark body-text on a light background
  •   Short bulleted lists like this one

Usability suffers with
  •   Light body-text on dark background
  •   Text in italics
  •   'Flash' intros
  •   A lot of center aligned text
  •   Reset button on forms
  •   A page that takes a whole minute to download
  •   A corporate statements of mission and values
  •   The spawning of new browser windows
  •   Inappropriate use of HTML frames
  •   Insufficient contact details
  •   Unclear and cumbersome navigation system
  •   Out of date material
  •   Pop-up windows
  •   Splash screens
  •   Hit counters
  •   Long bulleted lists like this one
